IT Support & Software Engineering — Netherlands
IT support that can also read the code.
I spent a year on the help desk keeping a 150-person office running, then three years building web and mobile apps in React, Node.js and Ruby on Rails. Now I'm in the Netherlands, looking for an IT role where both halves get used.
What I do
Two sides, one personKeep people working
Tier 1 and Tier 2 support: triaging a busy queue, fixing hardware and software issues at the desk, setting up devices for new starters, and training the technicians who come in after me. I travelled between offices to run onboarding when it needed doing.
Build the thing
Full-stack work across React and React Native on the front, Node.js, Express and Ruby on Rails on the back. I've shipped a cross-platform mobile app, helped design a microservices split, and written the test suites that cut our bug count by a quarter.
Where I've worked
2020 — nowPaying the bills after relocating while I study for Network+ and apply for IT roles. Day-to-day Dutch with the team, which is doing more for my language than the textbook is.
Built the company's mobile app in React Native for iOS and Android from one codebase, working directly with designers on the interface and shipping in two-week Scrum cycles.
Developed a RESTful API in Node.js and Express for third-party integrations, contributed to a microservices redesign, and built Jest test suites that cut reported bugs by 25%.
Helped build a custom CSS framework for React applications to keep the interface consistent as the design system grew.
Deskside IT for an office of 150+ people. Took on travel to other cities to run IT onboarding and device setup for new employees.
High-volume end-user support through peak hours, plus training and mentoring the technicians joining the team.
Things I've built
Code on GitHubFull-stack Rails + React app
A Ruby on Rails API with a React client, built over 92 commits as a capstone project — models, routes, seeded database and a component-based front end talking to it.
Sudoku
A playable Sudoku built in JavaScript — grid generation, input handling and validating a board state against the rules of the game.
Blog on Rails
A blogging application in Ruby on Rails covering the full CRUD cycle, routing and Active Record relationships between posts and authors.
